John Souttar and Danny Ings could soon follow Conor Chaplin to Leicester City in this summer's transfer window.
Leicester City are embarking upon a season in League One for the first time in over a decade after a woeful couple of years saw them succumb to back-to-back relegations from the Premier League.
Last season, Leicester appointed Marti Cifuentes in the summer after the protracted exit of Ruud van Nistelrooy and the transfer business they conducted was limited by financial constraints.
That led to Leicester having a strong squad, at least on paper, but one that lacked identity and cohesion, ultimately leading to Cifuentes being replaced by Gary Rowett in late-January but Rowett couldn’t prevent their relegation from the Championship.
This summer has brought about a bit more optimism with a fair bit more organisation on display with the appointment of former Southampton and Rangers boss Russell Martin.
Martin remains hamstrung in the transfer market with Leicester needing and opting to again try and move a lot of players on, as was the case last summer.
Bilal El Khannouss completed a permanent move to Stuttgart to kick things off with Jamaal Lascelles, Jordan Ayew, Patson Daka and Wesley Marcal among those to depart at the end of their contracts.
Bradford City have signed youngster Henry Cartwright with Amani Richards moving to Barnsley, while Jeremy Monga has earned a move to Manchester City.
Harry Winks has now left after a controversial stint at the King Power Stadium, moving to Sardinia to sign for Serie A outfit Cagliari. Jannik Vestergaard has also now left the club by mutual consent. Victor Kristiansen has joined Greek giants Panathinaikos on loan.
There is an expectation that Abdul Fatawu will eventually move on, amid interest from Besiktas, with Rangers said to be keen on Stephy Mavididi. Wrexham have been credicted with an interest in Australia international defender Harry Souttar. Caleb Okoli, Wout Faes and Oliver Skipp are also players with their futures up in the air, too.
In terms of incomings, the club have been able to bring in Alex McCarthy and Conor Chaplin on free transfers from Southampton and Ipswich Town, respectively – and there could and should be a couple more that follow in the coming weeks. This is a look at two players that could follow McCarthy and Chaplin to Leicester soon.

While his namesake Harry may well be the subject of interest from elsewhere after impressing as captain of Australia at FIFA World Cup 2026 in North America, John Souttar may well be a player moving to Leicester.
It has been reported that Leicester are interested in signing the Rangers centre-back who worked with Russell Martin at Ibrox last season.
Souttar came through the academy at Dundee United and turned professional there, playing for The Arabs for three seasons before moving to Heart of Midlothian in 2016.
While at Tannadice, Souttar went on to make his Scotland debut in 2018 and has since gone on to earn 24 caps for The Tartan Army – selected in the Scots’ 26-man squad for this summer’s FIFA World Cup, having been omitted from their UEFA EURO 2024 squad, despite being named in the provisional group.
Souttar left Hearts in 2022 for Scottish giants Rangers and he has gone on to make over 130 appearances for The Bears.
The 28-year-old defender, who can play at both centre-back and at right-back while also having played in defensive midfield on occasion, was left out of Rangers’ pre-season trip to Spain, alongside Brazilian forward Danilo, and Leicester will be keen to get a deal done as quickly as possible to reinforce their defence.

Like McCarthy and Chaplin, Leicester are expected to continue to scour the market for experienced free agents and one player that they are said to be closing in on the signing of is former Southampton striker Danny Ings.
Ings most recently played for Sheffield United, scoring two goals in 23 appearances for The Blades last season, albeit mainly as a substitute for Chris Wilder’s South Yorkshire outfit.
Ings, who began his career at AFC Bournemouth before establishing himself at Burnley and then earning a move to Liverpool, spent three years at Southampton between 2018 and 2021 before moves to Aston Villa and then West Ham United.
Ings, who scored one goal in three England caps across a five-year period between 2015 and 2020, would add much-needed experience to what has become a depleted and weak Leicester squad.
