Hayden Hackney has been heavily linked with a move away from Middlesbrough, so we have taken a look at who could follow him out the door.

Middlesbrough's star midfielder Hayden Hackney has recently been linked with a move away from the club, with newly-relegated Ipswich Town heavily interested in bringing the England Under-21 international to Portman Road.

Ipswich are delving into the transfer market this summer in a bid to rejuvenate their midfield after seeing captain Sam Morsy, Massimo Luongo and Kalvin Phillips depart the club.

Having already brought in Azor Matusiwa for £7.8 million from Reims and Jens Cajuste re-signing on-loan from Napoli, Kieran McKenna's side have made strides to secure the signing of the highly-rated Hackney from Boro.

The Tractor Boys had agreed a £20 million fee with Middlesbrough for Hackney, though the midfielder turned down the move. However, Football League World has recently exclusively revealed that the two clubs are back in contact in regard to a fee for the midfielder.

The 23-year-old opened the scoring for Middlesbrough in last weekend's 3-0 win away at Millwall, as Rob Edwards's side remain flawless two games in.

With rumours surrounding Hackney's future, Football League World has taken a look at two players that could follow Hackney out of the exit door at the Riverside.

Alex Bangura

Left-back Bangura has suffered a torrid time with injuries since his move to Middlesbrough from Dutch side SC Cambuur in 2009.

The Sierra Leone international's beginning to life on Teesside was, unfortunately for him and the club, a sign of things to come, picking up a hamstring problem on his debut against Blackburn Rovers.

Although he was a bench option for much of the first 16 games of the 2023/24 season, he managed to break through into the starting fold, though a late cameo appearance against Coventry City on matchday 26 was one of the last times he would appear in a Boro shirt.

Bangura picked up a lengthy injury which kept him out for the majority of the rest of the season, making just two more substitute appearances against Leeds United and Watford.

The 26-year-old missed the entirety of last season after undergoing surgery on an achilles injury, and a return date still does not appear set.

With Luke Ayling deputising at left-back, Neto Borges as another option and the club still in pursuit of USA left-back Max Arfsten, Bangura's time at the club is surely up before it could ever really begin, and we wouldn't be surprised to see him move on sooner rather than later.

Thomas Glover

Like Bangura, Middlesbrough's number one goalkeeper, Seny Dieng, has been on the sidelines for the beginning of this season, with 24-year-old academy graduate Sol Brynn preferred by Edwards in goal over Aussie keeper Glover.

Glover has 12 months remaining on his current deal at the club, though Boro do have the option to exercise a further one-year extension on his deal, should they so wish.

The Sydney-born goalkeeper was reportedly the subject of interest from Saudi Arabian side Al-Kholood, according to Teesside Live, with Hull City goalkeeper Ivor Pandur linked with replacing Glover in the squad, according to The Sun.

With Brynn ahead of Glover in the ranks despite Dieng's injury, coupled with their reported pursuit of Pandur, an exit is surely on the cards for the 27-year-old before the window is over.
