World Cup 2026: Despite the crisis in Mexico, Infantino expresses confidence

2026 World Cup: Despite chaos in Mexico, Infantino remains calm
With less than six months to go before the FIFA World Cup 2026, security concerns are mounting in Mexico. In recent days, a wave of violence linked to clashes between security forces and criminal organizations has reignited tensions across several regions of the country, while some Mexican cities are set to host matches in the upcoming tournament, which is being co-organized with the United States and Canada.
Despite this tense atmosphere, FIFA president Gianni Infantino sought to reassure everyone about the smooth running of the competition. Speaking during a visit to Colombia, the world football chief played down concerns:
"The situation is very calm, and everything is fine. The 2026 World Cup will be a fantastic tournament."
Mexican authorities have also adopted a reassuring tone. President Claudia Sheinbaum insists that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure the safety of fans expected in host cities such as Mexico City, Monterrey, and Guadalajara. The big question now is whether the situation will stabilize in the lead-up to this global event.
