Liverpool need a winger an exciting star just confirmed he's ready to play for them.

The Premier League is back, and it's back with a bang. Liverpool as the holders won 4-2 in a pretty exciting match, that for a moment seemed like it was going to end in disappointment, much the same way as the Community Shield.

Liverpool will be delighted to get the win. However, the game also exposed the Reds' lack of depth and options.

The big momentum swing was when Liverpool had to substitute Hugo Ekitike. He had played brilliantly until then and in his place came Wataru Endo, with Dominik Szoboszlai and Florian Wirtz pushed further upfield.

That just didn't quite work out the same way. But the reality is that Slot didn't really have any other options on his bench.

Liverpool have lost a lot of attacking depth and that needs to change. This is why they want to sign Alexander Isak, and why another winger is also a possibility.

Who that winger might be could possibly have been confirmed at Anfield. There were suggestions by DaveOCKOP before the game that Liverpool want a winger worth £60m to £70m.

And that they are looking to sign that profile regardless of Isak's arrival or not.

The answer to that riddle and who Liverpool should buy became very obvious on Friday night. It should be Antoine Semenyo.

Football Transfers values him at €48m and he'd be a bargain for that price. More realistically Liverpool will probably have to pay around the £60m or £70m mark to get him from Bournemouth after he signed a new deal earlier this summer.

But it's worth every penny.

Semenyo was one of the best dribblers in the Premier League last season. He showed that at Anfield, causing Milos Kerkez plenty of problems.

His workrate off the ball was tremendous as well. He covered 10.5kms, which was one of the highest in the Bournemouth team. But we know this about him, he ranked very high for defensive contributions among wingers last season.

These were never really questions about Semenyo though. It was his output. He takes a high volume of shots but can he translate that into goals.

The two goals both eloquently taken confirmed that he's ready for that step-up. He's ready to scale his output and he's ready to play for a better team.

Liverpool need a winger. They need a left-sided winger who can also play on the right. Semenyo is exactly that. On top of everything, he's also homegrown.
