The "Atlas Lions" have etched a historic chapter in Moroccan football after their victory over Congo, extending their winning streak and setting a new national team record.
Coach Walid Regragui's men clinched their sixteenth straight win thanks to a goal from Youssef En-Nesyri in the 63rd minute.
According to Opta, the leading football statistics network, this run ranks among the longest ever achieved by national teams:
For his part, Walid Regragui stated after the match: "We approached this game just as we did against Bahrain. Congo played deep in defense and gave us the ball to look for spaces. We had to be patient to reach the level we were aiming for."
He added: "At the Africa Cup of Nations, we will face teams that defend with a low block, and we will need to find technical and tactical solutions to break them down."
Regragui continued: "Thank God, we emerged victorious and achieved a world record with these 16 consecutive wins."
He also emphasized: "The return of experienced players like Mazraoui, Amrabat, Ounahi, and Rahimi will give us the strength we need in these kinds of matches."
Finally, he concluded: "The players are happy and are giving everything to delight our supporters, who must continue to back us and put pressure on our opponents at the Africa Cup of Nations."
