Gre-Nal rivalry was set aside as Internacional figures Abel Braga and Paulo Pezzolano sent public support to Grêmio left-back Marlon, who suffered a serious injury in the 2-0 win over Vitória at the Arena on Thursday night.

According to Globo.com, the incident caused visible distress in the stands and among players, and both men posted messages on social media wishing him well.

Braga, Internacional’s technical director and club great, previously worked with Marlon at Fluminense, while Pezzolano coached him at Cruzeiro.

Braga said rivalry does not matter in moments like this, wished the defender an excellent recovery and praised him as a person. He added he was sure Marlon would return stronger through his commitment and character.

Pezzolano wished a swift recovery, called the setback a demanding moment, and hoped the full-back can be back on the pitch soon.

Overnight, the diagnosis detailed a fracture to the right ankle, with additional ligament damage also identified.

Marlon has been in Hospital Moinhos de Vento since the incident, surgery is scheduled for Friday afternoon, and the expected timeline for a return is five months.
