Ademola Lookman signs four-and-a-half-year deal with Atlético de Madrid

Ademola Lookman has joined Atlético de Madrid on a four-and-a-half-year deal from Atalanta. The 28-year-old Nigeria international has 41 caps.

The move ends a protracted saga, after talks with Inter Milan last summer and recent links to Fenerbahçe. According to L'Équipe, the fee was not disclosed, with several outlets putting it at around €40m.

Lookman hit 15, 17 and 20 goals across three seasons for Atalanta between 2022 and 2025, capped by a Europa League final hat-trick against Bayer Leverkusen in May 2024, a 3-0 win.

He endured a more mixed start this season after that move fell through. He did not return to action until mid-September and scored only 3 in 19 matches.

At the Africa Cup of Nations he impressed, producing 3 goals and 4 assists in 6 games, before Nigeria went out in the semi-finals to Morocco after a 0-0 draw and 2-4 on penalties.
