The injury was diagnosed on five February 2026 after the clássico against São Paulo in the Campeonato Brasileiro. He felt discomfort and was replaced at half-time. Until then he had started under Juan Pablo Vojvoda and featured in every 2026 Paulistão game, totalling seven appearances and 586 minutes.

There is a chance he will be available for Sunday’s quarter-final against Novorizontino in the Campeonato Paulista. Kick-off is at 16:00 at the Estádio Jorge Ismael de Biasi, the Jorjão, in Novo Horizonte, with a semi-final place at stake.

Meanwhile, Zé Rafael has begun transition work with the physiotherapy team as he manages patellar tendinitis in his left knee. On seven February he reported increased pain after training, which ruled him out against Noroeste and Velo Clube in the Paulistão, and Athletico Paranaense in the Brasileiro.

In 2026 he has seven appearances for Santos, with one goal and one assist. The club are monitoring his recovery before deciding when he can return to selection.
