Leeds United have begun immediate work on Elland Road’s redevelopment, with a CC Overview drone video revealing early changes around the West Stand.
Planning permission was granted earlier this year and the project is set to lift capacity to around 53,000. The club plan to rebuild the West Stand first, then address the North Stand.
Work started almost as soon as the final home game ended. Journalists were told to leave the West Stand media room by 7pm so crews could get inside.
The Portakabins that hosted visiting teams, used as dressing rooms for Championship and Premier League clubs, have been removed.
Provided by York firm Britcab before the first season back in the top flight under Marcelo Bielsa to meet Covid protocols, the units had stayed in place. They were returned to Britcab’s lab last week.
The video also shows partial demolition of the ticket office and a building that housed LUTV operations. Floodlights have been taken down, and crests stripped from the West Stand banqueting suite. A temporary structure behind the North Stand, expected to host corporate facilities during the works, was rising before the season finished.
