Raphael Guerreiro’s departure is official – and FC Bayern’s plans for the summer are already in full swing
The record champions have confirmed that the Portuguese international’s expiring contract will not be extended, bringing the 32-year-old’s chapter at Säbener Straße to an end after two years. According to Sky, this decision had been foreseeable internally for some time and was ultimately taken by Chief Sports Officer Max Eberl and Sports Director Christoph Freund
The Munich club are thus pushing ahead with their personnel changes. It had already become apparent in recent months that Guerreiro would no longer play a central role in the long-term plans. The focus is increasingly on rejuvenating the squad and clearly defined structures within the team
With the departure of Guerreiro, there is a new need for action, particularly in the full-back positions. As Sky reports, those responsible are still actively exploring the transfer market to find suitable alternatives
This is not just about short-term solutions, but above all about players with development potential who will fit into coach Vincent Kompany’s system in the long term. The wing-backs are seen internally as one of the key positions for the coming season
It has already become clear recently that Munich want to create more depth and perspective here. In addition to established players, the aim in future is to develop more young players who can be both defensively stable and offensively flexible
Guerreiro’s departure is part of a larger restructuring of the FC Bayern squad, with several personnel decisions indicating that those responsible want to realign the squad in a targeted manner
Guerreiro himself has played 89 competitive matches for Munich so far, scoring twelve goals and assisting a further eight. His versatility made him a valuable option – both on the wing and in central midfield

Looking ahead to the coming season, Bayern are now clearly focusing on the future, with the search for new solutions at full-back likely to play a central role in their transfer strategy.
