Julian Alvarez could be a name to watch closely at Barcelona in the coming years. The Argentine striker, currently shining for Atletico Madrid, is reportedly attracting serious interest from the Catalan club.

With Robert Lewandowski’s contract set to expire in 2026, Barça are already planning for the future, and Alvarez is among the top names on their list.

His agent, Fernando Hidalgo, has now publicly acknowledged the possibility of a future move to Camp Nou.

Speaking on the El Chiringuito program (h/t SPORT), he said, “The day-to-day is at Atletico. We will see how the negotiation goes. Football changes quickly. There will need to be talks between the clubs, and a deal will have to be made.”

His comments have added fuel to the growing speculation that Alvarez could become Lewandowski’s successor at Barcelona.

Barcelona’s admiration for Alvarez

Hidalgo also confirmed that several top clubs have shown interest in the forward after his standout season. However, what makes Barça’s case special is Alvarez’s personal admiration for the club.

“He received many calls, but Atletico want him to stay for now. He has always followed Leo Messi’s career, and I don’t think many Argentines grow up without a strong feeling for Barça,” said the agent.

That emotional connection has reportedly only grown stronger recently. Alvarez was moved by kind words from Barça players, particularly centre-back Pau Cubarsi, who publicly praised him.

“Julian is very grateful to many Barça players who have spoken highly of him. That motivates him a lot,” added Hidalgo.

Inside Barcelona’s offices, Alvarez’s name has long been on the radar. Both club president Joan Laporta and sporting director Deco are said to be big fans of the striker.

Although no transfer is expected this summer, the club is carefully planning for life after Lewandowski, and Alvarez fits the profile perfectly.
