ChatGPT ranks all 24 Championship managers by their expected longevity
The Championship managerial merry-go-round almost never stops spinning - but some seats are far more secure than others.
Expectations vary wildly across the division - from promotion-chasing powerhouses to clubs simply hoping to consolidate - and predicting who'll still be in post come season's end is borderline impossible.
So Football League World turned to AI chatbot ChatGPT to do exactly that - forecast how long each of the Championship's 24 current managers will last in their respective dugouts.
Here's the full ranking from most to least secure, starting with those rooted in place for years and ending with those already running out of road.
AI reckons that the Tractor Boys are in it for the long haul with Kieran McKenna.
The Northern Irishman remains a popular figure in East Anglia and is a key cog in Ipswich’s well run, patient machine.
Perhaps one of the Championship’s project experts, ChatGPT reckons Mark Robins will be given time to see through his changes at Stoke City.
The bot notes that the Potters are “ambitious, without being erratic”, lending themselves for a long stay in the Midlands for the former Coventry City manager.
ChatGPT reckons that the Saints know that Will Still’s philosophy will take time to bed in - and will give him the time to ensure it does so.
Southampton’s results so far might be middling - but AI thinks the backing will be long term.
Edwards may be in one of the most secure positions in the Championship right now thanks to Boro’s excellent early results - and AI anticipates he’ll be settled for the foreseeable.
ChatGPT notes that Pompey are “realistic about consolidation” - and thus estimates that Mousinho is rooted in place at Fratton Park.
History tells us this may be the case too - at the start of the 25/26 season, he was the only manager from the that had stayed in the Championship from 24/25 who had been in post at the start of the previous season.
While AI tells us that Wrexham’s owners are “loyal” and Parkinson has earned their long term trust, a two year continuation of his tenure may be an overshoot.
It’d certainly contradict many pre-season predictions, who tipped the 57 year old for an early sacking after much misfortune in the second tier.
AI judges that Jones has found his level back with the Addicks, where his high intensity approach thrives.
ChatGPT suggests Charlton's newfound off-field stability means they'll back him through the inevitable bumps - though his volatile nature might mean he's never truly locked in for the long haul.
With the Sky Blues flying high, AI expects Lampard to have serious credit in the bank.
The algorithm notes his stock is "firmly on the rise" after a difficult spell at Everton, and sees little threat to his position barring a dramatic collapse.
AI believes Heckingbottom and Preston are a match made in pragmatic heaven.
ChatGPT points out that the Lilywhites "aren't flashy, but they value stability" - making the former Sheffield United boss safe as houses for the medium term.
The Spaniard is entrenched in Leicester's post-relegation rebuild, AI reckons.
While promotion might not arrive immediately, ChatGPT tips the Foxes to give him at least one more full campaign to deliver on their vision. That - however - feels generous.
