Alan Shearer calls Marcus Rashford “unprofessional”, claims Barcelona deal in jeopardy | OneFootball

Alan Shearer has warned that Marcus Rashford could sabotage any permanent move to FC Barcelona that may be in the pipeline due to his own reckless behaviour.

Manchester United decided to send Rashford to Barcelona on a season-long loan this summer, with the player’s future at Old Trafford seemingly in doubt.

Given his promising start to life in Barcelona, reports have increasingly surfaced about Rashford potentially joining the Catalan club on a permanent transfer.

Transfer talks unfold

Last week, The Peoples Person relayed reports that Barcelona could decide to pursue a permanent deal for Rashford as soon as January.

It seems that the feeling is mutual, with Rashford himself voicing his desire to remain at Barcelona in the long term.

Still, not every report seems to be aligned, with a more recent update claiming that Barcelona is not yet ready to pursue a permanent deal for Rashford.

Either way, Premier League legend Alan Shearer has warned that Rashford could sabotage any chance he has of securing a move to Barcelona if he doesn’t change his behaviour for the better.

The problem with Rashford

Ahead of Barca’s 3-0 win over Getafe, Rashford was demoted to the bench, with manager Hansi Flick only bringing him on in the second half.

Apparently, this decision resulted from Rashford showing up late to a team meeting – an issue that Shearer personally took issue with.

“Rashford can’t be unprofessional, it’s not right,” Shearer explained (MEN via TEAMTalk).

“We know that if Rashford is ready and if his attitude is right, then there’s a player in there,” he continued.

“He was sensational against Newcastle. The second finish in particular was amazing. But you can’t be unprofessional. “Why should everyone hang around just for you? Why should everyone else be on time but you be late? It’s not right.”

“I guess if he wants to stay there, particularly only being on loan, you can’t do that when you’re at a top club like Barcelona because there’ll always be someone to take your place,” Shearer warned.

“It doesn’t matter if you’re two minutes late or 20 minutes late. You’re late, and your teammates have to wait for you. Why should they all be on time and you not?”

Shearer made a valid point about respect, which has been an issue with Rashford since his days at United. Hopefully, he will learn from Flick’s punishment and improve his behaviour accordingly. If not, he could end up sabotaging any potential move he could secure to Barcelona, making it more difficult for United to offload him as needed.
