Alberto Costa has denied spitting at Sorriso during FC Porto’s 2-2 draw with Famalicão. The Porto full-back said in a post on Sunday that only words were exchanged.

He opened the scoring in the I Liga meeting on matchday 28. Famalicão levelled in the closing moments to seal the draw.

The full-back’s duel with the Brazilian winger was intense, and footage circulating on social media appeared to suggest otherwise.

Costa described attempts to twist events as an attack on his sporting integrity and insisted he would be incapable of spitting at a fellow professional.

He thanked Porto fans for their backing, adding the team would keep going until the end.
