Milan took maybe a decisive step toward the UEFA Champions League qualification in the last round, and Massimiliano Allegri addressed the rumors about his future in his post-game remarks, playing down the links to Italy and Real Madrid that resurfaced lately (via Adnkronos).
“This club and I started a journey together and will continue it. I haven’t received any call about the national team.”
Before the Verona tilt, he had declared that it wasn’t in his nature to change frequently. The boss received strong backing from Mattia Gabbia. The defender stated that the whole squad was behind him and wanted him to stay at the helm. According to Sky, Luka Modric included Allegri still being in the Milan dugout as one of his conditions to exercise the option in his contract, alongside a competitive project and a top-four finish.
Per La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Rossoneri brass seems ready to give in to the gaffer’s demands, giving him more power on the transfer market. He’ll push for a veteran team to compete for the Scudetto next year.
The matter isn’t yet 100 resolved, but, as a minimum, he sent the ball into the ownership and the front office’s court, implying it’ll be their fault if he departs. There’s not a full-fledged crisis and a power struggle behind the scenes like at Roma, but rather a clash of visions. The coach set the bar as high as it gets ambitious-wise, which is a crowd-pleasing trick. Chances are, his demands will be met at least partially with a pair of select additions he suggested. Perhaps there’ll be some changes among the execs for a complete appeasement.
