Ivory Coast drew 1-1 with Cameroon in the final matchday two fixture at the Africa Cup of Nations at Stade de Marrakech on Sunday evening.
Ivory Coast dominated possession and looked more dangerous than Cameroon in the first half. However, their first real chance only came on the half-hour mark.
Amad Diallo did well to recover possession and found Franck Kessie, who threaded a pass to Sekou Kone, whose effort was deflected behind for a corner.
Vakoun Bayo let another opportunity slip for the defending champions before the break, sending his effort wide from Diallo’s well-weighted cross.
The second half started frenetically, with chances at both ends.
Kessie thought he had given Ivory Coast the lead with a brilliant finish, only for his effort to be ruled offside. Danny Namaso then rattled the woodwork down the other end.
Diallo gave the defending champions the lead moments later, curling the ball home to net his second goal of the tournament.
Ivory Coast’s lead only lasted for five minutes, with Ghislain Konan deflecting Junior Tchamadeu’s shot into his own net to draw level for Cameroon.
Kessie came close to restoring Ivory Coast’s lead, rising highest to meet Guela Doue’s cross, only to be denied by Devis Epassy.
Ivory Coast continued to crank up the pressure on the Indomitable Lions, with Kessie and Bayo fluffing chances to find the back of the net.
A brief swing in momentum saw Bryan Mbeumo smash two shots wide of Fofana’s goal.
Deep into stoppage time, the Manchester United star looked bound to score the winning goal, but Odilon Kossounou produced a brilliant block to deny him, ensuring the game ended 1-1.
The result means both sides are tied on four points to sit joint-top of Group F ahead of the final matchday.
