América secured a Clausura 2026 liguilla place before facing Atlas, sealed by Xolos' draw, and will meet Pumas in the quarter-finals.
According to Americayya.net, the Atlas game looked set for 0-0 until a last-minute error by Sebastián Cáceres handed Atlas victory, dropping América to eighth.
The first leg will be played at Estadio Azteca, the return at Olímpico Universitario. Dates and kick-off times will be set on Monday.
It capped an inconsistent campaign in which América at times looked unlikely to qualify, only to recover over the final rounds.
This berth extends their Liga MX record to 17 consecutive liguillas, Tigres are next on 12. América last missed out in Clausura 2017 under Ricardo La Volpe, needing one point from the final three rounds but losing all three to finish ninth, level with eighth-placed Morelia on points but behind on goal difference.
