Another Barcelona youngster to take place on pre-season tour | OneFootball

Another up-and-coming member of the youth ranks at La Liga giants Barcelona is set to take his place on the club’s pre-season tour of the USA.

That’s according to Mundo Deportivo, who point towards Gerard Martín as the player in question.

Martín, for his part, is a 22-year-old defender, who generally operates at left-back.

The Spaniard is fresh off a hugely impressive campaign with Rafa Márquez’s Barca Atlètic, which saw him play a pivotal role in the club’s near-promotion to Spanish football’s 2nd tier.

All told, Martín racked up 41 appearances in all competitions.

And his efforts across as much, evidently, did not go at all unnoticed on the part of those behind the scenes in Catalunya’s capital.

As per the aforementioned MD:

‘Gerard will go on the American tour with Hansi Flick.’

It is also noted that, whilst Alejandro Balde and Álex Valle are set to act as the two left-back options in new boss Flick’s squad for the season ahead, ‘if Martín continues to progress, he will soon be knocking on the door of the first team’.
