Anthony Patterson faces a pivotal summer as Sunderland weigh up their goalkeeping options, with Robin Roefs entrenched as number one. West Brom are among the clubs monitoring the situation.

Sunderland Echo understands that Sunderland value Patterson at £8million to £10million, a figure that may stretch most Championship budgets. He favours a permanent move over another loan, though a temporary switch is not completely off the table if the market complicates.

Southampton are understood to be keen, though plans could be shaped by Aaron Ramsdale. If Southampton are promoted and the current Newcastle United loanee remains at the club, any move could be complicated. Coventry City, West Brom, Hull City and Derby County are also monitoring, while Millwall could emerge if promoted, potentially via a structured deal.

Patterson, 26, came through the academy and helped Sunderland rise from League One to the Premier League. He signed a long-term deal in September 2023 to 2028. Any sale would be positive from an SCR perspective as homegrown profit, though he will not be moved on cheaply.

Roefs, 23, impressed as number one and has admirers. Sunderland would consider only a major offer, though a summer exit cannot be ruled out. Some may prefer to watch him for another Premier League season, which would leave Sunderland well placed under Régis Le Bris.

If Roefs leaves, Sunderland would seek a replacement, which could delay any Patterson move. Patterson is not thought to be next season’s number one even then. Ellborg is comfortable cover.
