Antonio Cordón said Sevilla’s move for Patrick Mercado remains conditional, with a final decision in June depending on medical checks. He set out the position during Luis García Plaza’s unveiling.
The Ecuadorian playmaker has sustained an anterior cruciate ligament and medial meniscus tear, a lay-off of six to 12 months. Diario de Sevilla reports that the club are now assessing whether to maintain a six million euro agreement.
In Ecuador, Independiente del Valle executive Luis Fernando Saritama said the treatment would be a shared decision, and surgery is being weighed up either locally or in Spain.
Sevilla have deals in place for Arouna Sangante and Juan Iglesias for next season, and Cordón has moved on Marius Marin, the Romanian pivot at SC Pisa, after a quick trip to Italy. ABC de Sevilla says tests have ruled out serious damage, with Marin likely sidelined for around three weeks.
García Plaza has already led his first training session, despite eight international absences. Sevilla face nine games to save their season and sit just three points above the drop.
El Desmarque reports that Sevilla will not assume legal responsibility for a player who is not yet theirs, leaving Mercado’s future open.
