Former Manchester United player Antony has spoken to the media yet again to speak about his final days at the club before sealing a move to Real Betis.

In a previous interview, Antony declared that he felt disrespected at Man United, being made to train separately as he awaited his transfer.

He also spoke of how difficult it was to get ready for the new season in Spain as he didn’t manage to train with the rest of the United squad at the time.

After several interviews, it seems that Antony still isn’t finished speaking about his past at Old Trafford, even as he seems to be adjusting well to life at Betis.

Missing out on key events

In an interview with ESPN Brazil, Antony was asked about why he felt disrespected at United as well as who disrespected him.

“Look, I’m not one to get involved in controversies, to name names, and I’m not even going to mention anyone’s names here,” Antony replied. “But I think there was a bit of disrespect there, a bit of rudeness, too, with no one saying good morning or good afternoon.”

“I’m a man who takes responsibility. I think the off-field situation has had a big impact on my performance. I know my potential, I know my qualities. I didn’t play in a World Cup for nothing, I didn’t return to the national team for nothing,” he continued, suggesting that United may have failed to recognise his talent, especially since Brazil’s national team decided to include him in their 2022 World Cup squad.

“I also take responsibility for not having succeeded, for not having performed as I wanted. But I always try to see the bright side of things. Having gone through this whole process, this time at United, it was necessary to go through this to see myself,” he continued, at least expressing a nuanced view.

Still, the Brazilian has claimed that he lost out on important life events during his time at United.

Missing his son’s first steps

“I always try to see the bright side of things. Having gone through this whole process, this time at United, it was necessary to go through this to see myself. Maybe, if I had arrived already blown up, I might have lost myself a little further down the line,” Antony continued.

“I’m very grateful to God for bringing me back to reality, for seeing where I came from, the things I gave up, and the things I lost. For example, I missed my son’s first steps because I was far away,” Antony concluded.

Ultimately, there are two sides to every story, and United will no doubt have their own view on Antony’s tenure in Manchester.

Still, it is probably for the best that the Brazilian departed, especially since he seems to be far better suited to the setup at Real Betis.
