Liverpool suffered a 1-0 loss to Galatasaray in the Champions League last night.
To make matters worse for the Merseyside giants, goalkeeper Alisson Becker sustained an injury during the clash.
Giorgi Mamardashvili replaced the long-serving Liverpool shot-stopper in the second half.
Slot said (via the BBC): “If my player is on the floor, nine out of ten times I fear the worst, and with the worst I mean that he cannot continue.
“It’s never positive if you go off like this. You can be sure he is not playing Saturday.”
Alisson, who was signed for £66.8 million in 2018, will be a massive miss for Liverpool against Chelsea.
The 32-year-old made some important saves to keep the Reds in the tie versus Gala, including one fantastic stop against Victor Osimhen.
Mamardashvili will likely take the reins for the Chelsea game and needs to use this opportunity to secure a permanent spot in Slot’s starting XI.
He has long been touted as one of Europe’s brightest young shot-stoppers, impressing at Valencia with his reflexes, composure and command of the area before his move to Liverpool.
With Alisson sidelined, Mamardashvili has the perfect platform to prove he can be more than just an understudy.
Chelsea will provide a stern test, but if he can deliver a strong performance, it could alter Slot’s thinking about the long-term goalkeeping hierarchy at Anfield.
