Arrascaeta says Paquetá signing shows Flamengo’s stature | OneFootball

"Since I arrived at Flamengo, the club has grown a lot. Today every player wants to play for Flamengo because it is a club that will always be fighting for titles," said Arrascaeta, speaking to Transfermarkt.

"Paquetá’s signing shows the size of the club in bringing a player of this quality and for the fee paid. This is very good for Brazilian football. It will raise the level even more."

When he joined in 2019, Flamengo had one Copa Libertadores. They now have four, along with three Brasileirões in the past seven years. The club also reached two Club World Cup finals, losing both.

A Flamengo academy product, Paquetá had spent seven seasons in Europe. He wore the number 10 at West Ham in the Premier League and attracted interest from Manchester City.

Flamengo paid 42 million euros, about R$ 260 million, to bring him back. Since arriving he has held a starting role thanks to his technique and versatility.

With Arrascaeta available, Flamengo face Estudiantes on Wednesday 29 in Group A of the Libertadores. Kick-off is 21:30 Brasília time in Argentina, with coverage on Rede Globo and Paramount+.
