In a recent report, ESPN claimed that Arsenal are eyeing a summer move for Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez. It has been mentioned that the Gunners are eager to get a deal done for the Argentine talent, but could face competition from Barcelona in pursuit of him this year.
Alvarez has enjoyed a decent run of form at the Madrid club after he produced a string of impressive displays for them in the final third. The Argentine forward has banged in 11 goals and picked up five assists in 28 matches for Atletico Madrid this season on all fronts.
The 25-year-old has led the line well and deserves credit for averaging 2.58 shots per 90 minutes in La Liga. He has kept 48.8% of his attempts on target (stats via fbref.com).
His current contract at the Wanda Metropolitano will expire in the summer of 2030. Hence, it won’t be easy for Arsenal to get a deal done for him on the cheap at the end of this campaign.

Alvarez is proficient at finding a yard of space for himself to get some strikes in at goal. He has got the eye to play some decisive passes in the final third and is a decent dribbler with the ball at his feet. Alvarez can chip in by scoring and creating his fair share of goals up top.
The Argentine sensation is primarily a centre-forward but can also play as a winger if asked to do so. He already knows the Premier League well from his time at Man City and won’t take much time to adjust to life at Arsenal.
We can expect Alvarez to bring more firepower to Mikel Arteta’s attack. He is good enough to challenge for a regular first-team spot at the North London club in the coming years.
At 25, Alvarez has his peak years ahead of him, which makes him a decent choice for the Gunners to pursue next summer. He has what it takes to help the North London club compete for some major trophies in the future. Therefore, Arteta would be wise to go for a player of his quality and skill set at the end of this campaign.
