Arsenal currently sits second in the Premier League table. While their hopes of winning a domestic trophy have ended, they remain in contention in the UEFA Champions League, where they are set to face Spanish giants Real Madrid in the quarter-finals.

The Gunners finished as Premier League runners-up in the last two seasons, and unless something extraordinary happens, that looks to be their fate again. Mikel Arteta’s side hold a four-point lead over Nottingham Forest but trails league leaders Liverpool by 12 points.

Injuries and attacking struggles

Injuries to key attackers have significantly impacted Arsenal’s campaign. Their preferred front three of Gabriel Martinelli, Kai Havertz, and Bukayo Saka have missed several matches due to fitness concerns. Additionally, Gabriel Jesus, capable of playing across the front line, has also struggled with injuries. While Martinelli has recently returned, Havertz and Jesus are ruled out for the rest of the season. The good news for Arsenal is that Saka is close to full fitness.

Despite Havertz contributing goals, his poor conversion rate has been a concern. He was signed to add competition to an attacking lineup that has struggled for efficiency. But neither he nor Gabriel Jesus who was signed a season earlier has delivered the form needed to push Arsenal towards a league title.

Transfer plans: Isak and Sesko on Arsenal’s radar

As a result, Arsenal are eager to reinforce their forward line in the summer. One of their key targets is Newcastle United’s Alexander Isak. The 25-year-old Swede has been outstanding since arriving in English football, scoring 50 goals in 77 Premier League appearances. Last Sunday, he played a crucial role in helping Newcastle secure their first major trophy in nearly 70 years.

Journalist Ben Jacobs provided insight into Arsenal’s interest, “Arsenal like Alexander Isak. He’s the dream target, the #1 target, but all of us have number one things we’d like in the world that are very unlikely to happen. Is Isak genuinely available? Berta ( Incoming Arsenal sporting director) will get a quick read on that.

If he is, he becomes Arsenal’s top choice. If he isn’t available, I’d be relatively confident in saying that Arsenal will make a significant play on Benjamin Sesko — he’s sold on the project. Sesko to Arsenal has a very high percentage chance, but they won’t pull the trigger until they know the Isak question.

The summer transfer window will be crucial for Arsenal, with Isak attracting interest from several European giants ahead of the 2025–26 season. Benjamin Sesko is another player in demand, and his performances leading up to the World Cup could influence his next move. Arsenal fans will be keeping a close eye on developments as the club looks to strengthen its attack.
