According to ExpressAndStar.com, Aston Villa are monitoring Newcastle winger Harvey Barnes as Unai Emery looks to bolster his attack this summer.
The 28-year-old is on the shortlist as Villa once again aim to remain compliant with Uefa’s financial fair play rules during the window.
Barnes has had a strong campaign despite the Magpies’ Premier League struggles, scoring 16 goals in all competitions.
The former Albion loanee, from Leicester, is understood to be keen if a deal can be progressed. The fee could be challenging, with Newcastle expected to want up to £40million for a player who has two years remaining on his contract.
Emery is eager to add depth as Villa prepare for their Champions League return.
A permanent move for Jadon Sancho is unlikely to be pursued after a largely underwhelming loan from Manchester United.
The futures of Evann Guessand and Leon Bailey are also uncertain.
Crystal Palace have an option to buy Guessand for around £28m after the Ivory Coast international spent the second half of the season on loan at Selhurst Park.
Villa will also seek suitors for Bailey, who saw only limited playing time after an early recall from a season-long loan at Roma.
