Aston Villa are monitoring Newcastle winger Harvey Barnes as Unai Emery looks to strengthen his attack this summer.

According to ExpressAndStar.com, the 28-year-old is on Villa’s shortlist as the club prepare a careful window to stay within UEFA’s financial fair play rules.

Barnes has delivered 16 goals in all competitions despite Newcastle’s difficulties. The former Albion loanee from Leicester is thought to be open to a move if talks progress, although the fee could be problematic, with Newcastle expected to seek up to £40m for a player with two years left on his contract.

Emery is keen to add depth as Villa prepare for a Champions League return.

A permanent move for Jadon Sancho is unlikely after a largely underwhelming loan spell from Manchester United.

Crystal Palace hold an option to buy Evann Guessand for around £28m after the Ivory Coast international spent the second half of the season on loan at Selhurst Park.

Villa will also seek suitors for Leon Bailey, who had limited minutes after being recalled early from a season-long loan at Roma.
