Aston Villa are in the process of scouting out the successor to Argentina international Emiliano Martinez, and according to a report from Foot Mercato, they have set their sights on two goalkeepers currently plying their trade in Ligue 1.
Martinez, despite being under contract with Aston Villa until 2029, could leave the club at the end of the season. To replace him, the Premier League side are considering RC Lens goalkeeper Robin Risser. The Frenchman joined Lens for a nominal fee from RC Strasbourg Alsace last summer and has impressed during his debut season at the Stade Bollaert. With the FIFA World Cup approaching, he is even in with a shout of receiving a France call-up, whilst he has been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League.
Foot Mercato now understands that Risser is on Aston Villa’s radar, as is Toulouse FC shotstopper and France youth international Guillaume Restes, who could be a more attainable target than Risser, who will have the chance to play UEFA Champions League football at Lens next season.
