A Brazilian court has stepped in at Botafogo, tightening the squeeze on John Textor. It came a day after Eagle Football Holdings Bidco removed the former OL boss from his director role.

According to AFP, a judge in Rio de Janeiro imposed a precautionary suspension on all acts related to player and asset sales, citing reports of rushed negotiations. Textor, who runs Botafogo, was ordered to state within 48 hours whether such transactions or dividend distributions have been made, are planned or are under way.

On 30 December, FIFA imposed a recruitment ban on Botafogo over a debt to Atlanta linked to the transfer of Tiago Almada. The player passed through OL and was sold by Botafogo to Atletico Madrid.

On 20 January, the British courts rejected Textor’s appeal against a commercial court order to pay €95m to investment fund Iconic, over an agreement regarding the stock market listing of Eagle Football.

On Tuesday, Ares removed the American from Eagle Football Holding after he tried to regain control. He had attempted to oust two independent directors of the holding in order to then remove Michele Kang and Michael Gerlinger from OL.

Botafogo have been moving players out in recent weeks. The latest was Venezuelan midfielder Savarino, who signed for Fluminense, while Brazilians Freitas and Ricardo joined Palmeiras and Dynamo Moscow.
