With Borussia Dortmund bowing out of the Champions League, it is now certain that at least one France international will win Europe’s premier club competition, as reported by L’Equipe. The six remaining clubs in the Champions League have one Frenchman or more in their ranks, which means there will be, at least, a 50th Champions League winner from France on Saturday, May 31st, in Munich. Real Madrid midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni is France’s last Champions League winner, considering his club teammates Ferland Mendy and Eduardo Camavinga already won it in 2022.
Tonight, Kylian Mbappé’s Real Madrid will try to wipe out a 3-goal deficit against William Saliba’s Arsenal to qualify for the Champions League semi-finals, where they will face PSG and their star performers from France (Lucas Hernandez, Presnel Kimpembe, Warren Zaïre-Emery, Désiré Doué, Bradley Barcola, Ousmane Dembélé).
On the other side of the bracket, Jules Koundé’s Barcelona have qualified for the semi-finals for the first time since 2019. The Blaugranes will either face Bayern Munich – whose French contingent includes Dayot Upamecano, Kingsley Coman, Sacha Boey and Michael Olise – or Inter Milan, with Benjamin Pavard and Marcus Thuram representing France.
