Serie A side Atalanta witnessed one of their most harrowing defeats in recent history, as Bayern Munich ran out 6-1 winners in the Champions League Round of 16 first leg.

Strangely enough, La Dea are very accustomed to delivering results like that to their opponents – having done that quite a lot of times under Gian Piero Gasperini. But Bayern absolutely overpowered them, leaving Atalanta helpless.

Michael Olise was on fire, proving why he is one of the best in the world right now. The Bavarians could have easily made it 7-0 or 8-0 at a point. Mario Pasalic did score the solitary goal in stoppage time but the celebrations on the pitch seemed muted, even if the fans were overjoyed to see a goal after a troubled tie.

In a way, it was a case of Bayern Munich operating at a level above, like they would many years ago. It could have been a lot worse and La Dea should be glad it wasn’t.
