Athletic make renewed move for Iván Martín | OneFootball

Athletic are exploring a renewed move for Girona midfielder Iván Martín as they line up future reinforcements. According to Superdeporte, the Basque club have revisited the target ahead of the summer window.

Clubs continue transfer planning outside the registration periods, often working quietly to secure future additions. Players nearing the end of their deals are highly sought after, and long-standing targets often resurface.

At Athletic, their self-imposed recruitment policy means recurring targets are common, and they frequently look to Osasuna and Real Sociedad for profiles that fit the club’s philosophy. Recent attention has focused on Aimar Oroz, while Martín has also been pursued over the past two years.

Martín, 27, came through Villarreal’s academy and joined Girona permanently in 2023.

He was a key figure in Míchel’s successful side. His market value has dropped from 15 to 6 million euros, yet he remains important.

Martín is under contract until 2028. Athletic’s needs could see them offer around 10 million euros, a little under half of his release clause.
