Atlético Madrid fans gave Antoine Griezmann a rousing reception during the 4-1 win over Club Bruges that clinched a Champions League last-16 place. According to L'Équipe, his future remains uncertain amid talks with Orlando City in MLS.

Alexander Sorloth put Atlético ahead on 23 minutes. Griezmann replaced Julian Alvarez in the 58th, and Sorloth completed his hat-trick with goals on 76 and 87.

The Frenchman was on the bench again at kick-off, whether linked to that situation or simply a pattern this season. His introduction was greeted with loud applause, and his name had been chanted when the teams were announced.

Griezmann, 35 on 21 March, pressed relentlessly and helped fashion Sorloth’s second, a spell that coincided with Atlético’s dominance. He celebrated the late goals with palpable joy, then led celebrations with the home end, joining their songs.

Supporters such as Alex, 19, wearing a Griezmann shirt, said they would be devastated if he left, describing him as the team’s soul and leader who still elevates their play despite reduced minutes.

Another long-standing fan, Manuel, 53, urged the club to keep Griezmann at least until season’s end and even to the end of his deal, while accepting that if the player truly wants to go, he has earned a respectful farewell.

For now, fans are clinging to European progress and a likely Copa del Rey final. Atlético beat Barcelona 4-0 in the first leg of the semi-final on 12 February, when Griezmann scored the second.
