Despite the fact that his second career Bundesliga start yielded his second Bundesliga goal, FC Augsburg defensive captain Keven Schlotterbeck remained critical of his new teammate Rodrigo Ribeiro. The January loan signing followed up the attention he garnered in last week’s victory against relegation rivals Wolfsburg with another goal in a crucial six-pointer against 1. FC Köln on Friday night.
As the player who set up Ribeiro’s goal on Friday night, German-American defender Noahkai Banks, noted in his post-match interview, Schlotterbeck’s is often candidly critical of his teammates. The 28-year-old never hesitates to speak his mind. Augsburg still have a great deal of hard work ahead of them even if Friday night’s win propelled them up to 9th-place on 31 points in the table.
The Bavarian Swabian Fuggerstädter face a brutal remaining schedule. This may, in part, be one reason why Schlotterbeck felt compelled to point out the flaws in Ribeiro’s game. Nothing less than the best from everyone in FCA colors will suffice if Augsburg hope to avoid the drop. Schlotterbeck remained dissatisfied with the way Ribeiro’s Köln marker manhandled him. ‘
“Of course I’m happy that he scored the 1-0, but I’m also dissatisfied with his first half,” Schlotterbeck told Sky Germany. “He’s a good kid, but he still has a lot to learn. In the first half, he was eaten alive by [Köln’s English Man City loanee Jahmai] Simpson-Pusey.”
