Ronald Koeman has announced the Oranje squad for the upcoming friendlies in March. One notable inclusion has been AZ’s young star Kees Smit, with the 20-year-old earning his first call up to the national team. Smit will have a chance to prove that Koeman’s decision is the right one when the Netherlands face off against Ecuador and Norway, with both games taking place at home.
It had been expected that West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville would also be given a chance to show what he can do this March. However, the winger is unavailable due to injury, an unlucky situation that may well mean he has little chance of making the final squad for the World Cup this summer.
Despite struggling with an injury, Memphis Depay has been included in the squad, as well as Bayer Leverkusen goalkeeper Mark Flekken, who had recently been side-lined due to injury. He joins Bart Verbruggen and Justin Bijlow as the trio of goalkeepers in the squad.
