After a very successful 2024-25 season, FC Barcelona are looking to further strengthen their squad ahead of the next season. In this regard, the two positions that they are prioritizing for reinforcement are those of the goalkeeper and the left wing.
In fact, they are quite close to completing the signing of the goalkeeper Joan Garcia, for whom they have already paid the release clause and whose signing is expected to be completed at any minute now.
There is no doubt that Garcia would be a very interesting addition to this Barcelona squad after the very good 2024-25 season he had with RCD Espanyol.

However, his arrival would not really be welcome for everyone at the Blaugrana club, and one person who would be particularly unhappy with this situation would be the current number one goalkeeper, Marc-Andre ter Stegen.
Garcia’s signing has naturally led to differences between Barcelona and the German goalkeeper, and according to Mundo Deportivo, both sides are holding their stances for now, and not looking to back down.
For its part, the Catalan club believes that the opportunity to get such a good and young goalkeeper as Garcia for an affordable price of €25 million was too good to pass up, especially as they were looking to strengthen the goalkeeping position.
Regarding ter Stegen, the club’s plan is for Hansi Flick to hold a conversation with him, in which the German manager will explain his plans, and then the goalkeeper will make a decision.
Barcelona are confident that the veteran goalie will change his stance after this conversation, especially as his place as a starter in the German national team for the upcoming World Cup is at stake.
Meanwhile, ter Stegen is also adamant that he will not back down, and he is intending to start the upcoming preseason on July 13th.
He is ready to listen to what Flick has to tell him, but he believes his compatriot will not outright tell him that he is not going to count on him. Furthermore, he is confident that he will perform better than Garcia.
For now, it remains to be seen how this story develops and how the stances of the two parties will change in the coming days.
