Mikel Oyarzabal has responded clearly to links placing him with a move to FC Barcelona, making it clear that he remains happy at Real Sociedad.
The 29-year-old forward has been mentioned as one possible option for Barca as the club plan for life after Robert Lewandowski.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Oyarzabal was asked about his future during an interview with El Partidazo de Cope, and he made it clear what his plans were.
Oyarzabal said:
“I have already said that I am very happy at Real, that for me it has been home, it has been my home and they have supported me also in the most difficult moments, when I was at my worst. Thanks to Real I am here. Little more.”
For Barcelona, that is a fairly clear message. Oyarzabal may be a high-level forward, experienced, intelligent, and currently performing well for Spain, but there is no sign that he is pushing for a move.
Oyarzabal has undergone a significant career transformation, evolving from a fearsome winger in his early days at the Basque club into a well-rounded, technical forward.
He has made up for the pace and explosiveness he lost after numerous injuries with his intelligence, reinventing himself in recent years.
This has also earned him a starring role in Luis de la Fuente’s plans for Spain, and he has been influential in this World Cup for La Roja.
Barca need a striker, but they also need players who are fully convinced by the step. Oyarzabal’s words suggest his emotional connection to Real Sociedad remains very strong.
That does not completely close the door, because football can change quickly. However, from a Blaugrana perspective, this feels like a difficult path.
Barcelona’s priority remains Julian Alvarez, and Oyarzabal’s comments only underline why the club should focus on targets who actively want the move.
