Last week, reports emerged claiming that FC Barcelona and Jules Kounde had reached an agreement over a new contract until 2030.

The French international’s current contract expires in 2027, and it was reported that an agreement had been finalised for him to sign an extension for three more seasons.

Kounde confirms renewal

Now, in an interaction with the media in South Korea, Kounde has confirmed that he is indeed set to sign a new contract with Barcelona until 2030.

“Everything is ready for me to renew until 2030 when we return to Barcelona. It’s been fast,” the French international stated, as quoted by Jijantes FC.

Even though he is primarily a centre-back, Kounde has established himself as the first-choice right-back at Barcelona and is now considered one of the best in the position in Europe after a brilliant last season.

Talking about his adaptation to the role, Kounde noted: “In football, nothing is definitive. I’m improving at full-back. I want to take steps forward.”

Kounde comments on Ter Stegen, Rashford

During the interaction with the media, the Barcelona defender also gave his two cents on the situation of Marc-Andre ter Stegen, who recently underwent surgery and is staring at the possibility of losing his captaincy.

“Ter Stegen’s situation is difficult for him. We’ll see what the club says,” he remarked.

Regarding Barcelona’s new signing, Marcus Rashford, Kounde said: “Marcus Rashford is happy. He feels more and more comfortable. He talks to everyone, and I help him because I speak English too.”

The defender also reflected on his match-winning goal against Real Madrid in the Copa del Rey final last season, saying:

“The goal in the Copa del Rey final thrilled everyone. A very important, decisive goal. It’s a beautiful memory.”
