According to an update shared by SPORT, Barcelona are closely monitoring the progress of Luiz Benedetti, the young Palmeiras defender who is attracting attention across Europe.
The 19-year-old, who holds an Italian passport, is expected to make the move to Europe soon, and many of the continent’s biggest clubs have already taken notice.
For Barcelona, Benedetti’s name has been on the radar for some time, but the timing may not favour them.
With little room to manoeuvre in the current market, the Blaugrana face the risk of falling behind in the race for his signature.
Other European giants are already preparing their moves, which could complicate matters for Hansi Flick’s side.
Reports in Sao Paulo suggest Arsenal have already tabled a €10 million offer for Benedetti, with the possibility of completing the deal before the summer transfer window closes.
However, the player’s entourage insists that nothing concrete has happened yet, even though interest continues to grow.
Furthermore, from Italy, Napoli are also keen and have reached out to the defender’s representatives as they consider a first official bid.
This growing competition is nothing new for Palmeiras, whose academy has become one of the most productive in world football. In recent years, they have developed and sold some of Brazil’s brightest young stars.
Endrick’s blockbuster move to Real Madrid, Estevao’s switch to Chelsea, and Vitor Reis joining Manchester City have already brought in massive profits.
If performance bonuses are met, Palmeiras stand to earn over €150 million from those three talents alone.
Now, with Benedetti emerging as the next big name, European clubs are circling once again.
For Barcelona, his profile is particularly appealing due to his defensive maturity and the advantage of holding an EU passport.
But unless the Catalan club find space and resources quickly, they may see another South American gem slip through their grasp.
