Although reports earlier today suggested that Hansi Flick is not too keen on signing Joao Cancelo, it appears the saga is far from over.

Italian transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has offered some key insights into Cancelo’s transfer saga, effectively confirming that Barcelona are still in the race.

Romano also confirmed that the player himself is keen on returning to Barcelona, whereas Inter Milan are waiting on the sidelines.

Barcelona’s key conditions for a transfer

Barcelona are said to be in constant contact with Cancelo’s agent Jorge Mendes, who has a good relationship with Joan Laporta.

However, in order to facilitate the move, Barcelona can afford a loan deal, with the club only covering a part of the salary.

This is not something that will go down well with Al Hilal, considering that Cancelo himself does not want to continue in Saudi Arabia.

The Catalans are also evaluating whether or not re-signing the Portuguese international will make any economic or sporting sense, given that the club were initially looking for a centre-back.

Meanwhile, Inter Milan are more than ready to sign Cancelo this January, but it appears the player is waiting for the final verdict from Barcelona.

The coming days, therefore, could prove to be critical as far as Cancelo’s future is concerned, as the player awaits the final call from Laporta and co.

One thing is for sure, Barcelona only remain outsider in the race to sign the Portuguese international as the club lack the financial firepower to complete the deal without any hassle, especially knowing that the player earns a jaw-dropping €15 milllon salary in Saudi Arabia.
