Barcelona legend calls out planned Fermin Lopez sale | OneFootball

One of Barcelona’s all-time greats has questioned the club’s possible sale of Fermin Lopez in the coming days.

The 22-year-old has been heavily linked with a potential transfer move to Chelsea this week, while Newcastle United have also shown a firm interest in signing the Spain international.

Despite Hansi Flick’s previous statements over wanting to keep Lopez in Catalonia, Chelsea have now formally reached out over a potential move, and the midfielder is considering an exit.

Chelsea are willing to double his salary to secure a move to Stamford Bridge, but Barcelona have reportedly set a €90m asking price, which only Newcastle are currently willing to meet.

Despite reports from Catalonia saying Lopez remains keen to stay at Barcelona, he’s requested permission to negotiate with Chelsea, but it’s not clear if the Blues are willing to stump up the money for him with €50m their current ceiling.

Barcelona fans are torn over the saga and former La Blaugrana midfield lynchpin Sergio Busquets has offered a warning over selling a La Masia graduate.

“Players who leave La Masia have a different vision of what it’s like to wear the badge, to come through the youth ranks and reach your dream of being in the first team,” as per Mundo Deportivo.

“In the end it’s an individual decision, they have to look out for the good of themselves, the club – and if he stays – then so much the better.

“I don’t know 100% if a sale is necessary, if he wants to leave, and the club give permission, the only thing we’re going to do is support him and wish him all the best.”

All parties are now awaiting an update from Lopez, with the club keen to keeping him, but the financial injection on offer via a sale is also tempting.
