Gavi’s recent knee injury and subsequent arthroscopic surgery have meant that the 21-year-old midfielder is now expected to be out for four to five months.

This has come as a significant setback, not only for the player, but for the locker room and the entire club, considering he is a beloved figure at Barça.

Gavi’s teammates have taken to social media to show support for him through this ordeal and are keen on dedicating tonight’s game against Real Oviedo to the Spanish international.

Carles Puyol offers support to Gavi

Now, one of Barcelona’s most iconic former captains, Carles Puyol, has sent his support and encouragement to Gavi as he starts his recovery from the knee problem.

Speaking in an interview with Jijantes, Puyol offered support to Gavi while also advising him to stay patient through the difficult period.

“I send him encouragement. Injuries are the worst for athletes, but what he needs now is patience. He’s young and has to recover well,” said the Barcelona legend.

“When he’s back at 100%, which I’m sure he will be, we’ll enjoy many years of him.”

The legendary former captain also gave his two cents about this Barcelona team under Hansi Flick and how they are performing.

“Honestly, we enjoy the team and feel confident, and we hope it will be a good season,” noted Puyol.

On being asked about the current Barcelona defensive unit comprising of talented players like Eric Garcia, who is assuming a leadership role this season and Pau Cubarsi, who inherited his former #5 shirt, Puyol remarked:

“I’m very calm. I think the defence is very good. They are great players, young, but already experienced and showing they have the qualities to be at Barcelona, ​​to lead it, and to do a good job for the team.”
