FC Barcelona succumbed to their second defeat of the season on Sunday when they were handed a 4-1 drubbing by Sevilla away at the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan.

The Catalans were guilty of not performing at their best both in attack and defence, while some dodgy officiating did not help their cause either.

Indeed, there were some doubts about the penalty awarded to Sevilla in the first period, whereas the legitimacy of the hosts’ second goal has also been called into question.

Barcelona not angry at referee

Despite that, the Barcelona locker room is not holding the referee at blame for their loss on Sunday and instead believes that the team did not perform well enough, according to Santi Ovalle on Que t’hi Jugues.

Indeed, when asked the dressing room sources if there was outrage at the referee after the 4-1 defeat, the response was: “Not a bit. The fault is ours.”

In addition, the Barcelona locker room also analysed the defeat and came to the conclusion that their pressing needs to improve if they are to continue playing with the high defensive line that has become a staple under Hansi Flick.

It is something that defender Pau Cubarsi himself pointed out during his post-match media interaction, stating that Barça needs to press with more intent from the front if they are to stop opposition from having goalscoring chances.

“These chances start at the top, and we have to start pressing again like last season. We’ve relaxed, and that can’t happen. We don’t have to go overboard, but this is a turning point,” the youngster remarked.

With the international break now underway, FC Barcelona do not play for two more weeks, before returning to action on 18 October against Girona.

With El Clasico just around the corner, Flick & co. must bounce back strongly once club football action resumes.
