Sunday night was a near-perfect one for FC Barcelona as they defeated Getafe 3-0 in La Liga, with the only blemish coming in the form of a late injury to Fermin Lopez.
The 22-year-old attacking midfielder went down on the pitch in the dying minutes, clutching his groin and visibly in pain.
Fermin was dejected and in tears while walking off the pitch, and there is pessimism within Barça surrounding his injury, with several weeks on the sidelines being anticipated.
Now, according to SPORT, Fermin is set to undergo medical tests in the coming hours to determine the extent and the severity of his injury.
Early forecasts are not optimistic for the La Masia midfielder. With two weeks remaining until the October international break, it seems unlikely that he will be called up for Spain’s fixtures against Georgia (11 October) and Bulgaria (14 October).
It represents a significant loss for La Roja manager Luis de la Fuente, who had already included him in the September squad.

Fermin’s setback comes at a particularly unfortunate moment, as he was enjoying excellent form. He starred against Valencia with a brace and then impressed on his start vs Newcastle United as well.
Although he started on the bench against Getafe, he looked lively after coming on from the bench and even came close to scoring, only to be denied by the opposition goalkeeper’s fingertips.
The tests in the coming hour will be decisive and will clarify how long Fermin could be out.
It must be noted that fellow midfielder Gavi, too, will be undergoing tests today to assess his recovery progress after opting for conservative treatment on his knee injury.
Based on how things have progressed, a decision will be made on whether to continue with the same course of treatment or opt for surgery, which could keep him out for around a month.
