Tottenham Hotspur defender Luka Viskovic has been attracting serious attention from across Europe.
According to AS, the young Tottenham star has now caught the eyes of La Liga giants Barcelona. They are looking for a new centre-half, and he is on their shortlist.
Tottenham signed Vuskovic for €12 million last summer and sent him on loan to Hamburg in Germany, where he has been one of the best defenders in the Bundesliga.
Vuskovic, a ‘huge talent’, has won 75% of his aerial and 57% of his ground duels. He is also remarkably comfortable playing on the left or right side of defence.
Barcelona boss Joan Laporta shares an excellent relationship with Vuskovic’s agent, Pini Zahavi. Former midfielder Ivan Rakitic is the chairman of his former club, Hajduk Split.
These factors can help Barcelona if they decide to try to pry the talented Vuskovic from Tottenham.
He is not their first-choice target, but they might push for him if they miss out on the pricey Alessandro Bastoni.
Tottenham will be foolish to even entertain conversations over Vuskovic at this stage. Profiles like his do not come around often.
He is a physically dominant, tactically intelligent, and technically assured centre-back who is already producing elite numbers at such a young age.
Spurs took a calculated gamble when they brought him in, and it is beginning to look inspired.
Allowing him to leave now, before he has even worn the shirt in North London, would be short-sighted in the extreme.
Vuskovic has all the tools to develop into a cornerstone of the Tottenham defence for the next decade.
In fact, Spurs should already be planning for his integration next season, with a clear pathway into the starting picture.
He has the quality to move ahead of Radu Dragusin and Kevin Danso in the pecking order and make that role his own.
