Barcelona retain future interest as Alexis Olmedo completes transfer | OneFootball

The last few years have seen several youngsters from their youth academy make their way to the FC Barcelona first team. Some of these players, like Alejandro Balde, Pau Cubarsi, Gavi, Fermin Lopez, and Lamine Yamal, have gone on to establish themselves as important players for Hansi Flick.

Meanwhile, some other players from La Masia have also impressed during this time, but they were unable to get regular game time with the first team because of high competition. As a result, the Catalans have sent them to other clubs where they can get consistent playing time, and thus continue with their growth and development.

One player who joined this latter category today is the defender Alexis Olmedo, as Mundo Deportivo reports that Barcelona have officially announced the transfer of the 20-year-old center-back to the La Liga side Celta Vigo. The Blaugrana club will retain a percentage of any future transfer fee paid for him.

Olmedo had joined the Catalan club’s youth ranks back in 2014, and since that time, he has overcome several stages to reach Barca Athletic. He made his debut with the reserve team back in the 2023-24 season, and has played a total of 51 games for them. However, he was unable to take the final step in this regard, i.e., earning promotion to the first team, and was also not called up by Hansi Flick for preseason training.

His transfer to Celta Vigo will open up new avenues in his budding career, but he will also not be a first-team player for his new club, and will be registered with the reserve team Celta Fortuna, which plays in the second division.
