According to a recent report from SPORT, it has been learned that Frenkie de Jong is close to renewing his contract with Barcelona on the terms that would align with the club’s current financial position.
After months of back and forth over his future, the midfielder recently confirmed that talks are progressing well and he hopes to reach a resolution soon.
De Jong finished the 2024/25 season on a strong note. Under Hansi Flick, he was trusted in some of the most important games of the year, proving that his ankle issues, which have troubled him physically and mentally, are now behind him.
The Dutchman looked sharp, confident, and fully fit, offering a reminder of his quality and value to the squad. Flick’s belief in him has also played a key role in restoring his confidence on the pitch.

The midfielder has made it clear that he wants to stay at Barcelona for the foreseeable future. The club also shares this view, and the sporting department is fully focused on ensuring his renewal goes through.
Once seen as a player who could be offloaded due to financial pressure, the club captain is now firmly viewed as a cornerstone of the team’s midfield.
The contract renewal will reflect this renewed faith. While De Jong will receive a significant salary in recognition of his role, it won’t reach the high figures seen in older contracts signed during financially unsustainable times.
Instead, the deal will strike a balance, rewarding the Dutchman fairly while respecting the club’s need for economic stability.
With both parties aligned and the midfielder happy in Barcelona, the extension is expected to be finalised in the coming weeks, which will mark the end of speculation and the beginning of a new chapter.
