Barcelona have no intention of entering a public war of words with Atletico Madrid despite the latest comments from CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marin regarding the Julian Alvarez transfer story.

The tension between Barcelona and Atletico Madrid has escalated sharply in recent days after the Rojiblancos accused the Catalan club of negotiating with a player under contract.

Atletico have even confirmed plans to file a complaint with FIFA, but according to AS, the reaction within Barcelona has been notably different.

Rather than responding publicly, the Blaugrana have chosen to stick to their strategy as they continue working on a potential move for Alvarez, who remains one of the club’s priority targets in the summer transfer market.

Barcelona refuse to react to Atletico Madrid

The latest chapter in the Barcelona-Julian Alvarez transfer story began when Miguel Angel Gil Marin launched a strong attack on the Catalan club.

The Atletico Madrid executive questioned Barcelona’s conduct and accused them of disrespecting his club during the ongoing speculation surrounding the Argentine striker.

“Barcelona disrespects us; they think they can belittle us, that we are weak or stupid.

“But what they are really showing the world is a way of acting that defines them,” he said.

Furthermore, the Atletico CEO also referenced Barcelona’s pursuit of Nico Williams last year and suggested the club lacks the financial capacity required to complete an operation as expensive as a potential Alvarez transfer.

His comments came after Atletico Madrid confirmed they intend to submit a complaint to FIFA regarding the alleged negotiations involving the Argentine international.

Despite the strong language, the aforementioned outlet reports that Barcelona have no plans to issue an official response.

In fact, within the club, there is little concern about the latest developments, with decision-makers viewing the comments as part of the transfer battle rather than a major threat to their plans.

While the public dispute continues, Barcelona’s position regarding the Argentine forward has not changed.

Alvarez remains one of the most desired names on the club’s shortlist as Hansi Flick looks to strengthen his attacking options in the post-Robert Lewandowski era.

Barcelona are aware that any deal for the Atletico Madrid forward will be difficult because the player remains under contract until 2030 and Atletico have insisted he is not for sale.

Even so, Barcelona continue to believe there is a pathway to completing the transfer if the circumstances become favourable.

Notably, recent reports have linked the Catalan giants with an offer structure that could ultimately reach €150 million through fixed payments and performance-related bonuses.

Whether that figure is enough to convince Atletico Madrid remains uncertain, although Barcelona’s calm response suggests the club still believes the Alvarez transfer remains alive.
