Bayer Leverkusen has moved quickly to appoint a new head coach, announcing Kasper Hjulmand as their choice just one week after the departure of Erik ten Hag.

The 53-year-old Dane, who was previously at the helm of the Danish national team, has agreed to a contract that will see him lead the 'Werkself' until the summer of 2027. The club's statement confirmed the appointment but did not reveal the specific terms of the agreement.

This swift resolution provides a clear sense of direction for the club following the recent upheaval in its leadership.

Kasper Hjulmand's four-year tenure with the Danish national team was marked by historic achievement and subsequent disappointment. His most notable success was guiding the team to the semifinals of the European Championship, a feat not accomplished since 1992. However, his record also includes a group-stage exit at the 2022 World Cup and a round of 16 elimination by host nation Germany in the latest European Championship.
