In recent weeks, Real Madrid have been strongly linked with a summer move for Bayern Munich winger Michael Olise. The 25-year-old is widely considered to be one of the best attacking players in the world right now, which is one of the reasons why president Florentino Perez has identified him as a leading target.
Despite this, Bayern have absolutely no plans to sell Olise this summer, while Real Madrid have also publicly come out and played down the links. However, it has been reported in the last few days that the France international has reservations about signing a new contract at the Allianz Arena, which would open the door to a move at some stage.
Nevertheless, Bayern and France teammate Dayot Upamecano, who himself was linked to Real Madrid before signing a new contract earlier this year, has come out and tried to put an end to the speculation surrounding Olise, as he told reporters (via Diario AS) on Saturday that his compatriot “is staying, is staying” in Bavaria this summer.
Real Madrid would certainly have the money to spend big on Olise this summer, and they would not be put off by Bayern’s reported demands of a world-record fee. However, it would also be unlikely that any move was made in 2026, given that other areas of Jose Mourinho’s squad are to be addressed before another forward player is thought about.
Mourinho has asked Real Madrid to sign a centre-back and midfielder, and these deals would take a significant portion out of their transfer budget. There may well still be enough to go for Olise after that, although there would be a threat of damaging their institutional relations with Bayern if they were to make a move this summer, which is something Perez is not prepared to do.
